i neeeeeeeeed heeeeeelp pls.i have 2x1gb corsair dominater RAM installed.
now i bought 2x1gb more corsair dominater RAM and installed it this morning. but things began crashing and stuff. so i downloaded a memery tester (MemTest) it bassically said my RAM is screwed. so i take all the RAM out and begin testing to find the faulty 1. ive tested them all but they all work?
so i figured perhaps i just put them in loosly. so i put all 4 back in and......... programs begin crashing again! so i try using only my 2 new ones, and...... miracle it works? so now i try using only my 2 old ones and IT WORKS!!! so then i try 1 old and 1 new and it WORKS????????
ive bassicly come to the conclusion that >2gb of RAM = crashing?????
im beyond confusion!!!!!

ps. ive got Vista enterprise 32bit

oh yea i also tested all the RAM ports individually and they all work!!!!???? scratch

ive taken a look at the RAM and although they r identical for some reason the old ones say: ver1.2 2.20V and the new ones say ver4.3 2.10V
so they use different voltages,but then y does the combination(that im using as i type this) 1old+1new work? i thought that perhaps if i set the MB to give out 2.15V that it may work but my MB doesnt have that optoin. im still very confused Crying or Very sad

y cant things be simpler?

Sorry, I have been busy on other forums lately and Didn't check here. Hope im not too late to solve your problem?

Your problem is a classic problem... I had weeks of sleepless nights with my pc doing the same thing.

Basically when buying RAM (specially gaming ram) you buy them in 2 sets right. Thats called Matched pairs. Meaning they roll out of the factory matching each others memory back mappings.

What happens is you have the RAM you had in before the crashing Module 1 and 2 for instance. Then you bought more (Module 3 and 4). Crash happens.

What happened with me and what your doing too is that your unmatching the 2nd pair. Ill try and explain what to do.

Your previous memory bank looked like this

1 - 2 (Dual channel matched pair)

Then you added the 2nd set wrong...

1 -2 - 4 - 3

So what you need to do is get your PC running with the old modules 1 -2 and then add the 2nd ones. If they crash then swap the new ones around.

What could happen is having 2 - 1 running and then swapping the wrong ones by making it 2 - 1 -3 - 4

Whatever you do, keep the pairs together and swap the arrangement of the pairs. DO NOT MIX YOUR PAIRS. That WILL crash your OS. If this does not work Ill monitor this thread closely to check,

You will not fry your MB as your only seating or reseating RAM modules.

I used to work for matrix for about a year, and now Im a systems administrator for a software development company but Ive been into computers before I went to school (Tobias knows that story) so Ive got enough experience to help others I would say.

No problem man, Im glad your PC is working now Smile

RAM is always just a small issue so thats easy to sort out.
